How are you incorporating your environmental projects into your school's curriculum?:
Environmental projects are being injected into curriculum in the areas of Ecology, population diversity, biomes, weather/climates, gardening, entomology, plant science, by using lessons that address state standards and district benchmarks. These lessons are generally exploratory and inquiry base in nature.
Accomplishments:
We have developed an outdoor classroom and research area in one of our large courtyards which has only one accessable doorway to it. In this area we have a natural plant area, raised planting beds, automated irrigation systems to each area, and a pond feature. We resently were challenged by a commmunity organization Gardens not Yards where we set up a demonstration area of Till and No Till Gardening methods. Ms. Pence and Dr. Hotz have attended Fort Hayes State University studying biofuels. They plan to implement a PBL that surveys energy usage and then will present to the School Board their finding and recommendations on energy conservation. Recycling will expand to plastic and glass containers this fall.
