How are you incorporating your environmental projects into your school's curriculum?:
We are recycling metal, paper, and cardboard at this time. What we are the most active in is environmental studies in our area. We are monitoring area streams, ponds, and a local lake for biomonitoring and chemical monitoring. We are also finding ways to help in the solutions of the problems that we encounter. I am able to encorporate a stream program into most of my classes. My biology classes are involved in biomonitoring of many different aquatic ecostystems in our area. My Wildlife management class is involved in terrestrial and aquatic diversity studies as well as chemical studies of our local habitats. We also try to help in as many community projects as we can. We have developed a 3 mile hiking trail that is with in our hay fields to show local farmers how to use the edge habitat to develope trails and different wildlife habitats. The trail has a small pond and wetland within it. We have also opened our pond to the Kansas Wildlife and Parks as a Walk In Fishing Area for local kids and their parents to enjoy fishing.
Our stream has been recognized by Illinois River Project as Outstanding Stream Team. The National and Kansas Wildlife Federation has also recognized us as the Wildlife Federations Stream Team Award. We take the most pride when we can help those in our state and community solve environmental problems and assist in the rebuilding part of the streams.
