Accomplishments:
This group began in 2012 and was the reason for the implementation of our campus wide recycling program. We have also held a few "lights out campaigns" and have an active Monarch Waystation with several milkweed patches around campus. This past summer we implemented a school garden, increased our milkweed patches on campus and built a wall around our elementary school trash and recycling bins to help beautify our campus. Currently we are planning on building bat and bird houses and looking into water bottle stations to decrease plastic bottle waste. Every year we have several outdoor work days where we plant, weed, and work in our school flower beds and in our nature site on campus where we also built a boardwalk and trail for classes to utilize and experience a natural habitat in the city. We have seen deer, turkeys, raccoons, opossums, snakes, frogs, lizards, squirrels, birds, insects and spiders. Classes use the area for nature walks, creative writing projects, photography, filming, and science experiments. We have registered for the past two years of our school fall work days with the National Green Apple Day of Service, and are a member of Green School Alliance.
